Cuixmala is set in lush vegetation on a 3 km, golden sand beach on the Mexican Pacific coast. The estate is a stunning 25,000 acres of land, lagoons, and beaches. Sprinkled through the vast unspoiled environment are rental villas and a cluster of very private casitas. They all share Cuixmala’s pristine setting with its vast wildlife, its endless unspoiled beaches and its personalized service. The late Sir James Goldsmith was an international financier who was considered a man of discerning taste. He created Cuixmala to be his primary residence and no expense was spared in creating this fantasy world of oceanside palaces and country estates. La Loma, Sir James' exotic beachfront home, is an alluring mix of north African and Mediterranean architecture with elaborate detailing and this attention to detail continues through all the accommodations at Cuixmala. Sir James' daughter, Alix Goldsmith Marcaccini, continues to maintain Cuixmala as a rarified private estate that happens to welcome guests.

Retreat Projects

The Cuixmala Ecological Foundation (FECx) is a non goveramental organization established on May 1988 and was instrumental in establishing the vast Chamela-Cuixmala Biosphere Reserve, the first reserve of its kind in Mexico to protect this type of ecosystem and the fourth most important in terms of biodiversity. The Foundation has supported a variety of projects, ranging from habitat conservation (forest and wetlands), threatened species (marine turtles, crocodiles, jaguars, pumas, parrots), and through the application of organic agriculture and forestry plantations as alternatives for sustainable use.

Cuixmala is unique in that almost all food served at the Cuixmala estate is from our own organic farms and organic highland ranch. Meats, dairy, fruits and vegetables, jams, cheese even coffee is produced by the estate.

Local Communities Support

Cuixmala and the Cuixmala Ecological Foundation carry out various practices and are involved in local and regional initiatives to protect the environment and support the local communities by:

  • Encouraging self-sustaining systems using local and renewable resources and diminishing or eliminating the use of non-renewable resources.
  • Encouraging and innovating sustainable practices in our organic agriculture, horticulture, orchards and grain production.
  • Encouraging and innovating sustainable practices of free range livestock, pigs and sheep.
  • Encouraging appropriate and sustainable use of the local environment and with the local and federal government has protected the local wildlife through conservation programs and the banning of hunting.
