Shumba Camp is located in the centre of the Busanga Plains, home to hundreds of red lechwe, pukus and the oribi. With these antelopes, Lichtenstein’s hartebeest, herds of wildebeest, zebras, buffalos and lions take advantage of permanent floodplains near the Camp: these species can be perfectly observed from the comfort of your tent or the main deck. Shumba Camp comprises 6 spacious en-suite luxury safari tents on raised platforms with large ambiences and both indoor and outdoor showers. The dining and bar area is elevated and overlooks the landscape; dinner takes place in the intimate “boma”, where guests can also enjoy elements of local Zambian culture. Many meals are cooked on the fire in front of the guests, enhancing the safari experience. A maximum of 12 people can be accommodated at any one time to assure the best experience.
Boasting 491 species, including the endemic Chaplin's barbet, birdwatchers will be spoilt for choice on a specialist birding safari. The area is rich in rollers, bee-eaters, kingfishers, herons and large flocks of storks.
Game drives with open 4x4 vehicles are offered day and night. Guests may view large numbers of plains game such as puku, red lechwe, buffalo and wildebeest. The rare roan antelope and the famous lions of Kafue, cheetah and wild dog are also to be seen. Led by a knowledgeable guide, night drives offer a glimpse into Busanga Plains’ unique, nocturnal world. A diverse range of species may be seen at night, including genet, civet, owls and occasionally the elusive leopard.
