Laos was a part of Indochina French until the 1950s. It has archaic rhythms: crossed by the mighty Mekong, it has preserved the truest traditions of the ethnic groups that inhabit it. The capital is Vientiane, but it has in the town of Luang Prabang its artistic treasure chest, protected by Unesco: the ancient royal residence (the monarchy was abolished in 1975), with beautiful pagodas, lush nature and pleasant lifestyle.
