After breakfast meet with the guide at the hotel and start the visit to discover the history of Matera which is often identified with the history of the Sassi.Matera is one of the oldest cities in the world, the first settlements date back to between the Paleolithic and Neolithic times.Many of the houses excavated inside the limestone have been lived since the Bronze Age.The Sasso Barisano and the Sasso Caveoso develop around the “Civita” that is the upper and noble part of the city where the Pugliese Romanesque-style cathedral is located.The Sassi are a cultural landscape.
