The long-standing partnership between A&K Philanthropy and the community of Nakatindi, in Zambia, centres on the refurbishment and expansion of the local school, which was once a dilapidated building unsuitable for teaching.
The transformation began in 2017 with the funding and construction of four new classrooms, a strategic initiative that revitalised the school’s entire educational provision. Thanks to the expansion of the premises and the subsequent recruitment of new teaching staff, the school is now able to accommodate over 1,200 pupils, enriching the traditional curriculum with practical and educational activities focused on vegetable cultivation and environmental protection.
The school complex has continued to grow steadily over time: in early 2025, a new two-storey building housing classrooms was completed, enabling the admission of a further 200 pupils, whilst the construction of a new building to house two science laboratories and new classrooms is scheduled for 2026.
The Sussi & Chuma lodge takes its name from the two faithful companions of explorer David Livingstone, who brought his body back to England after his death in Zambia.
