The Program for the Conservation of Cultural Heritage and Community Engagement in Ngorongoro was created to safeguard, promote, and enhance the cultural heritage of the communities living around the Neptune Ngorongoro Luxury Lodge.
The program supports the protection and transmission of local traditions, customs, arts, crafts, language, music, dance, and knowledge, encouraging authentic, respectful, and responsible sharing with guests.
A small Maasai community also lives within the lodge property. Through collaboration with local communities, artisans, cultural groups, and schools, the lodge supports initiatives aimed at strengthening cultural identity and creating economic opportunities for local families.
Among the handcrafted items—made primarily from local materials—are traditional necklaces, bracelets, sandals, and belts, shanga bowls, traditional attire, woven baskets, decorative items, and other cultural souvenirs.
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
Guests are invited to discover and learn about local culture through traditional performances, storytelling sessions, culinary experiences, craft exhibitions, and community visits, all organized in respect of local traditions and with the involvement and consent of the communities concerned.
Guests can also purchase local handicrafts, thereby helping to support artisans, preserve traditional skills, and generate income opportunities for families in the community.
