LOCAL SOCIO-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Development of bio-business activities

America | Peru | Reserva Nacional Pacaya Samiria

The project was created with the aim of improving the socio-economic conditions of the local population through the development of sustainable bio-business activities. The promotion of aguaje fibre, punga fibre and honey produced by stingless bees is a concrete tool for generating income and strengthening the skills of the community.

In order to build solid foundations, assessments of local living conditions and capacities were initially carried out to identify the main gaps and promote appropriate and inclusive commercial development. Among the most significant results, the punga fibre campaign (July–September 2025) enabled the processing of 50 kg of fibre, of which 19 kg was sold, the installation of 10 beehives and the delivery of training activities, generating an average income of more than $50 per participant.

Future phases include advanced training, structured marketing and the definition of health and management indicators, with the aim of ensuring the sustainability, autonomy and replicability of the model over time.
