The Kayotei - Ryokan

Yamanaka

A charming ryokan nestled in nature, located in Shuzenji along the banks of the Katsuura River in the Yamanaka Onsen spa village, just 90 minutes from Tokyo. With over 500 years of history, Kayotei is famous for its open-air onsen set amidst greenery and its Noh stage, where traditional performances are regularly held.

The ryokan has only ten suites, each one different, to offer an intimate and authentic stay. Some rooms have private cedar-wood hot tubs and are furnished in minimalist Japanese style, with tatami floors and shoji sliding panels, striking a perfect balance between elegance and simplicity.

Kayotei's cuisine is a sensory experience: kaiseki meals are prepared with local and seasonal ingredients, including hand-picked wild vegetables and rice grown according to the natural aigamo method. The dishes, served in private rooms or dining rooms, reflect the art and seasonality of Japanese culinary tradition.

Guests can relax with rejuvenating spa treatments and soak in Yamanaka's thermal waters, known for their beneficial properties. In the surrounding area, it is possible to explore nature trails, visit temples and participate in guided excursions.

Kayotei promotes ties with the local area through partnerships with local artisans, offering exclusive visits to workshops of potters, lacquer masters and other traditional craftsmen, for an authentic immersion in Japanese culture.

Perfect for those who wish to regenerate in an intimate and refined environment, the Kayotei Ryokan offers a stay that combines nature, well-being and tradition with elegance and discretion.
