Sextantio Le Grotte della Civita is a "widespread hotel" in the oldest area of the Sassi di Matera. It is articulated in 18 rooms, almost all of them inside the caves, with dimensions that exceed 100 square meters, and a common space also realized inside a big cave used in ancient times as a rock church. The lodge spreads on three levels connected by a terrace system overlooking the Gravina Torrent Gorge and the dramatic scenery of Parco della Murgia and his rock-hewn churches. The caves have been renovated and furnished using a “conservative recovery” technique, with essential styled furniture, often embedded in the rock, and 100% linen blankets a century old. Fresh water, season fruit, cakes, liquors and a fireplace welcome guests in their caves; every morning in the old church,cakes, biscuits, jams, cheeses and cold cuts based breakfast, are served with every product coming from local farms. All the caves have a modern air-conditioning system and internet connection.
