The 14 rooms of La Foresteria Planeta take their name from the aromatic herbs of the Mediterranean garden that surrounds them.
Equipped with every comfort, they have different furnishings with the right balance between elegance and functionality. They all have private terraces overlooking the sea or the countryside of Menfi. Crossing the garden, you get to the beautiful infinity pool, ideal for a refreshing bath from the hot Sicilian sun or to enjoy its golden aura at sunset in a magical fusion of peace and relaxation. The cuisine of Casa Planeta and the creative dishes of chef Angelo Pumilia are the directors of our Restaurant, an exclusive journey into Sicilian cuisine to make you protagonists of our cultural and gastronomic symposium.
The flavors’ identity and the fresh ingredients following the seasonal changing, are the essence of La Foresteria’s cuisine. Entrusted to the creativity of chef Angelo Pumilia, unusual elements are enriched and combined in unpublished gastronomic weaves. New tasting paths that continue to renew themselves, keeping the precious secrets of the ancient family history. The restaurant is not only a place of refreshment, but also of reflection on the true meaning of sustainability, a founding value for the Planeta family, to be transmitted and developed. There is an expansion of the gastronomic offerings, with chef Angelo Pumilia proposing "Orto": a vegetarian tasting path with organic resources from local producers; "Casa Planeta": a culinary journey through the ancient recipes of the Planeta family; and "Primavera": a reinterpretation of five international dishes, using local ingredients and the unique taste of Sicily. The winery at La Foresteria also brings news in this 2024: recognition as "Wine Family of the Year" by the "Meininger Awards Excellence in Wine & Spirit" in Dusseldorf, the arrival at the estate of sommelier Enrico Miro, and new tours to discover Sicily with Planeta wines. With Planeta's signature experiences and itineraries, one has the opportunity to get to know the territory with taste and tradition, such as the "Planeta in Tour," an exclusive itinerary dedicated to 4 historic estates: Capparrina, Dispensa, Monte Cirami and Ulmo, the place of origin of the Planeta family.
Ulmo estate is located in Menfi, few meters from Arancio Lake. Owned by Planeta family for 17 generations, it is the epicenter of an extraordinary territory where it is possible to explore, on foot or by mountain bike, the vineyards of Chardonnay, Grecanico and Nero d'Avola or walk along the paths of La Segreta wood. The wine tour includes the visit of the winery and the tasting of wines matched with a simple aperitif or the traditional lunch of Casa Planeta.
The Planeta family opens the doors of La Foresteria's open kitchen to share the exhilarating experience of the new cooking classes. Themed lessons led by Chef Angelo Pumilia, planned for micro-units in a professional context. Small tasting adventures reflecting the historical and the contemporary taste mingled in a harmonic cuisine. Topics and processes presented will represent the Planeta family’s gastronomic history. Dishes’ tradition with their numerous influences, the study and selection of every single ingredient, will be enriched by the enthusiasm of the participants. They will learn, while having fun, the most complicated techniques and the mastery of mise en place and how a good glass of wine can match to each dish.
