Sapling vine breeding

CULTURAL HERITAGE

Project description

The Tenuta di Castellaro has adopted sapling vine breeding or all its vineyards. A very ancient cultivation system linked to Sicilian and Etnean traditions, ideal for places with scarce water resources. The method, which is organic and vegan, requires the vines to be planted at a distance of 1.20 meters from each other, in order to have a 360-degree exposure to weather events each. The system requires manual work where each plant is regarded as an individual and the vineyard as a community.
